Day 143: how important you think education is

Education is very important in some aspects, but this depends on what kind of education the students will get.

Important education is to be able to have skills in writing and reading in different languages, you should be able to read and write in the official language(s) your country has, and hopefully also in other languages as well since it will benefit you to be fluent in more than one language. As a major in languages I believe languages is very important in one’s education since the lack of communication would be grander if you couldn’t speak other languages or your own language.

But, other subjects can differ though. Every subject is important in its own way, mathematics has a major part in our lives since we always use maths in different situations, even though it is a real pain and sometimes it feels really hopeless, it’s very important. Social science is very important as well (especially if you have a similar social science education as us in Sweden), because we learn about politics, economics and other things. There are also many more subjects that are important for us in the future.

However, it’s not the education that is the problem but the system and how the students get educated. Many youths do not understand the importance of education because they feel rather forced to do this than the willingness to learn. I am actually the same, nowadays grades are much more important than gaining knowledge. We only get tested for our ability to memorize everything and after all the exams we forget many of the things we learned by force. Many students experience stress and anxiety because of all the homework and exams we have, that’s why many stops to care about their grades since they will turn crazy if they don’t.

If we could change the school system, maybe then students will actually start to feel comfortable enough to start study and learn. I feel that some subjects shouldn’t even need homework and exams, and the fact that we have to memorize things that others has written instead of using our own creativity is very devastating. What school is doing to students are making them turn into humans with no own thoughts, because we get graded depending on what kind of thoughts we possess. I feel like school is segregating the students into two different parts. One is those who do everything school expects them to and the other part is the ones who are not able to live up to these expectations.

It is really sad that this is the way it is and everything I have written is my own experiences in Sweden. We have many students who give up education because it gets too much for them, and it’s not due to laziness but to stress, anxiety and/or depression. Ask anyone in your school and I’m pretty sure that most of them have experienced at least one of these three emotions. Trust me, I have felt all three of these due to school. Hopefully university will get better but I am skeptic about that.

Day 142: how have you changed in the past 2 years

I have gained so much experience in the past two years, especially in the social relationships. Because of that, I have gotten a clearer view of relationships, both romantically and friendly.

As a human being my personality changes by second, you will never be the same person you were a second ago.

But for more concrete examples then I have matured a lot in some aspects. Especially socially since I have gotten less shy and aloof, and instead I have started to turn into more of a social able person.

I have also started to get more independent and stopped being dependent on people close to me, I am trying to get out of my comfort zone and try new things to evolve me into a more self confident me.

I am also not as negative as I was for almost a year ago, I am trying to be more of an optimist and think everything in a positive light. And most of all; I have stopped hating people, or at least I have reduced my hate for people. Also for the persons who have hurt me the most. Forgiveness is the key to your own happiness since hate never benefits anyone.
